Semilla de Esperanza y Amor: The before and after-school education project in San Mateo Milpas Altas where DS pays the salaries of 2 locally hired teachers.
The DS team visited the remote community of Samox San Lucas in January 2010 to meet the staff and students in our junior high (básico) classes. DS provided the A/V equipment to deliver the material in this “telesecondaria” school. We are currently paying the salary of the teacher.
Also in January 2010, the DS team traveled to La Primavera Ixcán where we are opening the first high school (diversificado) in the community. The school will offer the 2 year academic stream, “bachillerato en ciencias y letras” or arts and science diploma. We currently have over 25 students enrolled in the program.
