HOW TO MAKE A DONATION:

Donations can be made either as a one-time gift, or a commitment for specified monthly or annual gifts and can be tailored to your preferences. The simplest and most cost-effective way to make a contribution is to make out a cheque to “Developing Scholars” and mail it to Developing Scholars at 38 Cheltenham Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4N IP7.   A charitable receipt, which is acceptable for Revenue Canada, will be mailed back to you for use in your income tax reporting.
Donate Now Through CanadaHelps.org!
You can also donate on-line by specifying Developing Scholars on the web site “www.CanadaHelps.com” which provides a secure web-site service for thousands of Canadian registered charities. There is a 3.9% fee for using this method to make your donation and they accept credit card payments. They provide an immediate tax receipt to you on-line.

Donations of securities may also be made by contacting us at john_eby@rogers.com.

American or Guatemalan supporters might wish to donate to the projects of Developing Scholars through the Casasito Association in order to receive an applicable tax receipt.  Please visit their website at “www.casasito.org“.

OUR FUND-RAISING TARGET:

Developing Scholars has a new fund-raising goal for 2011 of US$ 35,000, to cover the annual operating budgets of the charity for next  year.  Having a secure funding base will allow the charity to make longer-term commitments to the students in its programs as they advance through their school years and will also allow for organic growth of the programs.

John and Shelley Eby started Developing Scholars in 2007, when they began spending the winter months in Antigua Guatemala. They were the sole funders for the activities of Developing Scholars until 2009, while they applied for charitable status and gained experience in education development projects in the country.  Having established a successful program, the Ebys now feel they have reached the point where they can confidently approach their friends, families and business colleagues for additional support.

The Ebys are making a contribution of US$10,000 towards this goal as the lead donors and are paying for the services of our Agent in Guatemala.  The balance of our funding is dependent on the donations of the Developing Scholars Board of Directors and from people like you.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?

We promise our Donors the rigorous pursuit of our educational development objectives at a low cost; a big bang for your development buck.  Fully 100% of our Donors’ contributions go directly to the projects and student recipients without any middlemen, administration costs, overhead, fund-raising, or any other costs.

Our projects are initiated by the communities themselves with a significant level of the support coming from the community, the families and the students themselves. This allows us to leverage our contributions and ensures that the recipients have a significant stake in their own education and increases success of our projects.

Here are a few examples of how your contribution can be used in 2011:

  • $7,000 is enough to run the first high school in the Ixcán area for 50 students who until 2010 had no alternative but to quit school after junior high school
  • $3,100 will pay the salary of one of our full-time teachers at the after school enrichment program for more than 120 children in San Mateo
  • $1,7000 will purchase 4 computers and provide internet access for the high school in La Primavera
  • $800 will provide one of our individual scholarship students with one year of advanced level training
  • $100 will provide a high school “beca” in La Primavera, for the school year the family share of tuition will be covered for an academically qualified student
